Everything your coach does on WhatsApp

One number, one thread. No new app, no new password, no new habit to build.

Smart Habits

Twelve kinds of micro-lesson — vocab drops, a pronunciation clinic, quiz master, idiom of the week and more. You choose which ones, and when.

Free conversation

Message any time in the language you are learning. Send text or voice notes, and your coach replies in the same form.

Practice calls

A real spoken conversation over WhatsApp with an AI that answers first and greets you by name.

51 Roleplay Practice situations

Order food, see a doctor, survive a job interview, sort out lost luggage — each one with a goal to hit.

Lesson summaries

Your tutor lesson summary arrives on WhatsApp, then a short evening review locks the new material in.

Streaks and progress

Practise on consecutive days to build a streak, with a repair if you miss one, and milestones to celebrate as you go.

Chat and voice

Practise the way you already message

Your coach is a contact in your phone. Write when you are on the bus, send a voice note while you cook, and pick the thread back up hours later.

Text or voice, your choice

Send a message or a voice note. Your coach replies in kind — or does both at once, if you like hearing it as well as reading it.

Instant help, no context switch

Ask for a translation, an explanation, or how a word is pronounced, and get it right there in the thread.

One tap to lock it in

New material comes back as a short drill at increasing intervals, until it sticks for good.

Role-play on demand

Ask for a roleplay and your coach sets one up — a market stall, a call to a landlord, a first day at work.

Practice calls

Actually speak, not just type.

Reading and typing will only take you so far. Call the Voilà number on WhatsApp and have a genuine spoken conversation with an AI that plays a part, at a level that matches yours.

Dial in, or let it call you

Ring the Voilà number whenever you want to talk, or accept a practice call your coach proposes.

Every call has a goal

You are not just chatting. Each roleplay gives you something to accomplish, and you find out afterwards whether you managed it.

Surprise complications

At higher levels the person on the other end throws in a curveball mid-call, the way real life does.

Rehearse the real thing

Mention a real event — a job interview on Thursday — and your coach will offer to rehearse it with you first.

51 roleplays across five categories

Everyday survivalWork and studySocial lifeHigh stakesFun curveballs

Practice calls are rolling out gradually and are not switched on for every account yet. Calls need a language our voice AI supports — most major languages are covered, and where one is not, your coach sticks to voice notes instead.

Two ways to practise situations

Rehearse it, then walk in ready.

Roleplay Practice builds fluency in your own time. Scenario Prep gets you ready for the thing you are doing this afternoon. They are different tools, and they work best together.

Roleplay Practice

Practice for its own sake

Call in whenever you feel like it and the AI plays a part — the waiter, the landlord, the interviewer. You improvise live, and afterwards you find out whether you pulled it off. Nothing real depends on it, which is exactly the point.

  • 51 situations across five categories
  • A spoken call, live and unscripted
  • A Practice Summary minutes after you hang up

Scenario Prep

For the thing you are actually doing

Tell your coach what is coming up — "I'm going to the pharmacy" — and get back the phrases you will need, what you are likely to hear in reply, the key words, and voice notes to replay on the way there.

  • Ask by message or voice note, any time
  • Phrases, likely replies and key words
  • Voice notes to listen to on the way

Prep gives you the words. Roleplay lets you rehearse them. Then you go and do it for real — and the words you looked up come back later as review.

After every call

A Practice Summary, minutes after you hang up

The call is only half of it. As soon as you hang up, your coach writes up how it went and sends it to you on WhatsApp as a PDF — the same way a lesson summary arrives.

  • Whether you achieved what the roleplay asked of you
  • Pronunciation and grammar points to work on, with the moments they came from
  • Suggested improvements — better ways to say what you were reaching for
  • Vocabulary from the call, queued up for review later in the week

Practice calls are recorded so this feedback can be written, and your coach tells you so before the call starts.

Better together

It makes your tutoring worth more

One lesson a week is an hour. This is the other hundred and sixty-seven. Your practice and your lessons feed each other, so you arrive further along than you left.

A quick review before your lesson

An evening review locks it in

A week of practice on your tutor's focus

Your tutor gets briefed before next time

And round it goes — every week builds on the one before.

With a Voilà tutor

  • Your coach practises the exact vocabulary, grammar and recurring mistakes from your recorded lessons.
  • Your tutor sets the focus for the week, and your practice reorganises around it.
  • Your tutor can leave you a voice note or a written challenge, handed to you mid-practice.
  • Your coach credits your tutor by name and keeps steering you back to them.
  • Your tutor gets a short brief before your next lesson, so no time is wasted catching up.

No tutor? Still yours.

  • Smart Habits, free conversation, voice notes and practice calls all work on their own — just pick the language you want to practise.
  • Your coach still tracks what you struggle with and brings it back for review until it sticks.
  • The only things you miss are the lesson-linked parts: the pre-lesson review, lesson summaries and tutor voice notes.

For parents

Kid Mode: hand over your phone

Your child can practise on the same thread, with a coach that talks to them at their level — without touching your account, your settings or your learning history.

Turning it on takes one message

Hand your phone to your child and type or say kid mode — that is all. It switches itself off after two quiet hours, or as soon as you ask it to stop. There is no separate app, login or child account to set up.

Adapted to your child

  • Short sentences, a playful and encouraging tone, age-appropriate topics and simple games.
  • Three difficulty levels that control the language mix: mostly your child's own language with one new word at a time, half and half, or mostly the new language in very simple words.
  • The level adjusts itself from how your child responds. A fluent reply or a “too easy!” steps it up; going quiet or repeated confusion eases it off.
  • Their level is remembered, so the next session picks up where the last one left off.
  • Every reply arrives as text and voice, in a warmer, slower, clearer voice so your child can listen along.
  • Practice calls get the same treatment, with games, simpler language and child-appropriate safety rules.

Kept apart from your account

  • Free conversation and practice calls with your child do not feed your learning history — nothing they say enters your vocabulary review queue or your grammar record.
  • Your child cannot change your settings. The controls for your level, reply mode, voice, immersion, tutor and lesson booking are switched off while Kid Mode is on.
  • Their difficulty level is stored separately from yours, so a child adjusting it can never rewrite your own level.
  • Your child cannot claim a voice note your tutor left for you or read your weekly recap — those wait for your next message.
  • Kid Mode never discusses settings, money or personal information, and your Smart Habit schedule and subscription are untouched.

You still see how it went

After a Kid Mode practice call you get the written summary as usual, framed as what your child practised — so you can see what they covered and where they could use a hand.

Worth knowing

  • It is still your WhatsApp number and your subscription. Kid Mode is a mode, not a separate child account.
  • Daily streaks still count towards you.
  • If your child taps one of your scheduled Smart Habits, that runs as a normal lesson and does count towards your progress.
  • Replying STOP genuinely unsubscribes, even in Kid Mode.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does Voilà on WhatsApp cost?

It is included with Premium AI Insights — there is no separate WhatsApp subscription. New subscribers get a 7-day free trial, then $19.99 per month plus applicable tax. Cancel any time before the trial ends and you will not be charged. A generous monthly fair-use cap applies to AI practice; in the rare case you reach it, practice pauses until the next month.

Are practice calls recorded?

Yes. Calls are recorded and transcribed so your coach can write the Practice Summary you get afterwards, and you are told this before a call starts. If you would rather not be recorded, stick to chat and voice notes — they work just as well.

How do I pause or stop?

Reply STOP on WhatsApp at any time, or switch the channel off in your Voilà settings. You can turn it back on from the website whenever you like, and you can disconnect your number entirely to free it up.

Which languages does it work in?

Chat and Smart Habits work in every language Voilà teaches. Practice calls need a language our voice AI supports — most major languages are covered. If yours is not supported yet, your coach simply will not offer calls and will suggest voice notes instead.

Is my child's practice kept separate from mine?

Mostly — and it is worth knowing exactly where the line falls. Free conversation and practice calls in Kid Mode do not feed your learning history: nothing your child says enters your vocabulary review queue or your grammar record, they cannot change your settings or your level, and they cannot claim a voice note your tutor left for you. What is not separate: it is still your WhatsApp number and your subscription, daily streaks still count towards you, and if your child taps one of your scheduled Smart Habits, that runs as a normal lesson and counts towards your progress.

How do I turn Kid Mode on?

Type or say kid mode in the chat — no setup, no separate child account, no extra cost. It switches itself off after two quiet hours, or as soon as you ask it to stop. One thing to keep in mind: replying STOP still unsubscribes for real, even in Kid Mode.

Does this replace my tutor?

No — it is built to do the opposite. Your coach practises what your tutor taught, credits them by name, briefs them before your next lesson and nudges you to book it. Your tutor is the one teaching you; WhatsApp keeps you warm in between.

Can I use it right now?

Voilà on WhatsApp is rolling out gradually and is not switched on for every account yet. Create your free account and start Premium AI Insights, and you will be able to connect your number as soon as it reaches you.
