Getting Started (Students)

This guide walks you through signing up as a student and booking your first lesson on voila.fun.

Creating Your Account​

  1. Go to voila.fun/sign-up and select Sign up as a Student.
  2. Register with your email or continue with Google.
  3. Complete the onboarding steps:
    • Personal details — name and country
    • Native language — the language you already speak
    • Language to learn — the language you want to study
    • Topics of interest — select subjects you enjoy (used to personalize AI content)
    • Availability — when you are typically free for lessons
    • Current level — your self-assessed knowledge of the target language
    • Voice sample — optional recording to improve transcription accuracy

Finding a Tutor​

After signup, you have two ways to find a tutor:

Browse the Marketplace​

Go to Tutors in the sidebar to browse available tutors. Filter by language, price range, rating, availability, and more. See Finding a Tutor for details.

Use the AI Matchmaker​

The AI Matchmaker asks you a few questions about your learning goals and preferences, then recommends tutors whose teaching style fits your needs. See AI Matchmaker for details.

Booking Your First Lesson​

  1. Open a tutor's profile and click Book a Lesson.
  2. Select an available time slot from the tutor's calendar.
  3. Choose a session duration and confirm.
  4. If the tutor uses Stripe Connect, you pay at booking. The payment is held until the tutor confirms.
  5. Once confirmed, the lesson appears on your dashboard and you receive a confirmation notification.

Your First Session​

  • Join the lesson at the scheduled time from your Dashboard or the Lessons list.
  • During the session, use the chat to message your tutor and the board for collaborative writing or drawing.
  • After the session, Voila generates a transcript and AI summary with vocabulary, grammar points, and corrections. You receive this by email and can access it from your lesson history.

What to Explore Next​

  • Notepad — Take private notes and review AI-generated lesson summaries and schedules.
  • Messaging — Message your tutor between sessions with questions or updates.
  • Dashboard — Customize your home screen with widgets for upcoming lessons, progress, and more.
  • Settings — Configure your account, notifications, and integrations.

Accepting a Tutor Invitation​

If a tutor invites you directly, you receive an email with a link to create your account (or connect to an existing one). Once you accept, the tutor appears in your tutor relationships and you can start booking lessons immediately.

Invitation links expire after 7 days. If your link has expired, ask your tutor to resend the invitation from their "My Students" page — you will receive a new email with a fresh link.

Resetting Your Password​

If you forget your password:

  1. Go to the login page and click Forgot Password?.
  2. Enter the email address associated with your account and complete the CAPTCHA.
  3. Check your inbox for an email with a password reset link (valid for 1 hour).
  4. Click the link, choose a new password, and confirm it.

If you signed up using Google or Microsoft, you do not have a traditional password. Instead of a reset link, you will receive a reminder email explaining which sign-in method to use.
