AI Matchmaker

The AI Matchmaker connects students with tutors based on compatibility — teaching style, experience, goals, and personality — rather than just price and rating filters.

Why Use the Matchmaker​

Traditional search filters show tutors who match your budget and availability, but miss the nuances that determine whether you work well together. Two tutors at the same price can have very different approaches — one structured and grammar-focused, the other conversational and informal.

The Matchmaker understands these differences and finds tutors whose style genuinely fits your preferences.

How It Works​

Complete the Interview​

  1. Go to Tutors in the sidebar and open the Matchmaker.
  2. Complete a short AI-guided chat interview for your target language.
  3. The AI asks about:
    • Your learning goals and motivation
    • Preferred learning style (structured vs conversational, etc.)
    • Current level and experience
    • What you value in a tutor
    • Specific needs or constraints
  4. Answer naturally — the AI asks follow-up questions based on your responses.

The interview takes a few minutes. Once complete, your match profile is generated automatically.

Get Recommendations​

After completing the interview:

  1. Optionally apply hard filters (price range, availability, country) to narrow results.
  2. Receive up to 3 personalized tutor recommendations.
  3. Each recommendation includes an explanation of why that tutor is a good fit for you specifically.

How Matching Works​

The AI reads your interview answers and creates a numerical representation (embedding) that captures the meaning of your profile. It does the same for every tutor who has completed their own matchmaker interview.

When you request recommendations, the system compares your profile against all available tutors and finds the closest matches. This comparison understands meaning, not keywords — a tutor who describes themselves as "patient and encouraging with beginners" matches well with a student looking for "a supportive environment to build confidence," even though the words are completely different.

For Tutors​

Tutors complete their own matchmaker interview from their Profile setup for each language they teach. The interview covers:

  • Teaching approach and methodology
  • Areas of specialization
  • Experience level and background
  • Communication style
  • What kinds of students they work best with

The more specific and authentic the answers, the better the matching works. Tutors can reset and retake the interview if their approach changes.

Retaking the Interview​

If your goals or preferences change, you can reset the interview and complete it again. Go to your matchmaker settings and click Reset.
