In-Session Tools

When you are in an active lesson, Voila provides tools for recording, collaboration, and AI-powered assistance. The available tools depend on whether you use the in-platform classroom or an external video platform with the Bot or Extension.

Recording Methods​

Choose your recording method globally in Settings → Subscription, or override it per-lesson when creating or entering a session.

The Bot joins your external video call as a participant. You need to admit it from the meeting lobby when it appears. The Extension runs in your browser during Google Meet sessions — no bot admission required.

In-Platform Classroom​

When using the Voila (In-Platform) option, the entire lesson runs inside voila.fun with built-in video and the following tools:

Chat​

Real-time text chat with your student. Chat history is saved and accessible after the session ends on the lesson detail page.

Private Notes​

A personal notepad visible only to you. Anything written here saves automatically and persists across sessions with the same student. Notes appear in your student's Learning Insights panel.

Screen​

The Screen panel displays structured content:

  • PDFs — upload and present documents
  • Lesson plans — display saved Teaching Assistant exercises or attached files
  • Exercise display — vocabulary exercises show questions only (answers are hidden by default)
  • Audio lessons — preview transcriptions before playing

Board​

A collaborative canvas where both you and your student write and draw simultaneously:

  • Real-time collaboration — you see each other's edits live
  • Use for brainstorming, diagramming grammar structures, writing practice, or visual explanations

Teaching Assistant​

Generate exercises directly during a session without leaving the interface:

  1. Open the Teaching Assistant panel.
  2. Select mode, level, mechanism, and exercise type.
  3. Generate and insert the exercise into the Screen.
  4. Optionally save to your folders for reuse.

AI Chat​

An AI assistant available during the session for quick queries:

  • Translate words or phrases
  • Look up grammar rules
  • Generate example sentences

AI chat history from the session is stored and accessible when you review the lesson later.

Post-Session​

After a session ends, Voila automatically:

  1. Processes the recording (if applicable).
  2. Generates a transcript with speaker attribution and word-level timing.
  3. Creates an AI summary using your selected summary template.
  4. Sends the summary by email to both you and the student.
  5. Makes everything accessible on the lesson detail page.
