Transcriptions & AI Insights
Every recorded lesson on Voila is automatically transcribed. These transcriptions power AI-generated summaries, cumulative student analysis, and personalized lesson planning.
How Transcriptions Are Generated
When you record a lesson using the Bot, Extension, or In-Platform classroom, the audio is automatically transcribed after the session ends. Each transcription includes:
- Speaker diarization — each segment is attributed to the correct speaker (tutor or student).
- Word-level timing — precise timestamps for every word spoken.
- Structured grouping — the transcript is organized into readable sentences and paragraphs.
Transcriptions are generated for each participant. Both tutor and student receive their own copy.
AI Lesson Summaries
After each lesson, Voila's AI analyzes the transcript and generates a structured summary. The default summary includes:
- Topics discussed — what the lesson covered
- Vocabulary used — new words and phrases introduced
- Grammar points — structures practiced or taught
- Common mistakes — errors the student made, with corrections
- Key phrases — important expressions from the session
Summaries are generated per participant and sent by email after the lesson. They are also stored on the lesson record for future reference.
You control the summary format using summary templates.
Cumulative Student Summaries
As lessons accumulate, Voila aggregates AI summaries into a cumulative Student Summary for each student. This tracks:
- Vocabulary growth across sessions
- Recurring grammar mistakes and whether they improve
- Topics covered and progression through difficulty levels
- Overall language development trends
- Student profile data (hobbies, profession, goals)
The cumulative summary updates automatically after each lesson — new data from the latest session is merged in without regenerating the entire summary. Tutors can also trigger a full AI regeneration or manually edit sections.
Access the cumulative summary from My Students → [Student Name] → Learning Insights → Student Progression.
AI Insights Chat
Query lesson transcripts through an AI-powered chat interface. Go to a student's Learning Insights → Student Progression and ask questions in natural language:
- "What grammar topics has this student struggled with?"
- "What vocabulary did we cover in the last 3 lessons?"
- "What should I focus on next based on their progress?"
- "Has their use of past tense improved?"
The AI draws on the full transcript history and cumulative summaries. This is particularly powerful with many sessions where no tutor could remember every detail.
Teaching Assistant Integration
Past transcripts feed into the Teaching Assistant, enabling it to:
- Generate personalized conversation starters based on topics from recent lessons
- Create exercises targeting grammar or vocabulary the student has practiced or struggled with
- Suggest lesson plans that build on what has already been covered
The Teaching Assistant becomes more useful the more lessons you teach — it learns from your transcript history.
