Transcriptions & AI Insights
Every recorded lesson on Voila is automatically transcribed. These transcriptions are more than a record — they are the foundation for AI-powered insights that help you teach more effectively and help your students learn faster.
Why Transcriptions Matter
A single transcription is useful. Dozens of transcriptions across weeks and months of lessons become invaluable. They allow you to:
- Track progress over time — see how a student's vocabulary, grammar, and fluency evolve across lessons.
- Spot patterns — identify recurring mistakes, favourite topics, and areas that need more attention.
- Create more relevant lessons — plan future sessions based on what actually happened in past ones, not just what you remember.
- Provide evidence of growth — both you and your students can look back and see concrete improvement.
When many lessons are analysed together by AI, the insights go far beyond what any tutor could track manually.
How Transcriptions Are Generated
When you record a lesson using the Bot or Extension, the audio is automatically transcribed after the session ends. The transcription includes:
- Speaker diarisation — each segment is attributed to the correct speaker (you or your student).
- Word-level timing — precise timestamps for every word spoken.
- Sentence and paragraph grouping — the transcript is structured into readable sentences and paragraphs, not just a wall of text.
Transcriptions are generated for each participant. Both you and your student receive your own copy.
AI Lesson Summaries
After each lesson, Voila's AI analyses the transcript and generates a structured summary. The summary typically includes:
- Topics discussed — what the lesson covered.
- Vocabulary used — new words and phrases introduced.
- Grammar points — structures practised or taught.
- Common mistakes — errors the student made and corrections.
- Key phrases — important expressions from the session.
Summaries are generated per participant and are sent via email after the lesson. They are also stored on the lesson record for future reference.
You can customise the summary format using summary templates — choose the structure that works best for you and your students.
Learning Insights Over Time
As lessons accumulate, Voila aggregates AI summaries into a cumulative Student Summary for each student. This summary tracks:
- Vocabulary growth across sessions
- Recurring grammar mistakes and whether they improve
- Topics covered and progression through difficulty levels
- Overall language development trends
Access the Student Summary from the student detail view under Learning Insights → Student Progression.
AI Insights Chat
You can query your lesson transcripts through an AI-powered chat interface. Go to a student's Learning Insights → Student Progression and ask questions in natural language, such as:
- "What grammar topics has this student struggled with?"
- "What vocabulary did we cover in the last 3 lessons?"
- "What should I focus on next based on their progress?"
- "Has their use of past tense improved?"
The AI draws on the full transcript history and cumulative summaries to provide detailed, contextual answers. This is particularly powerful when you have many sessions with a student and cannot remember every detail.
Teaching Assistant Integration
Your past transcripts feed into the Teaching Assistant, enabling it to:
- Generate personalised conversation starters based on topics from recent lessons.
- Create exercises targeting grammar or vocabulary that the student has practised or struggled with.
- Suggest lesson plans that build on what has already been covered.
This means the Teaching Assistant becomes more useful the more lessons you teach — it learns from your transcript history.
